Here's an odd confession for a fitness blogger - I'm not a fan of cardio workouts. I hate the monotony of most cardio exercises and jogging and I really don't get on. But aerobic strength is so important to your health that you can't really overlook it.
So I've committed to play more sport and or do more sport specific training to take care of my cardio quota. I’ve managed to stave boredom, add fun to the mix and been a lot more social than if I was to do straight forward cardio workouts.
Cousin Bisi, Housemate Stevie B and I played basketball this weekend. Cousin Bisi suggested we play 21 which I haven’t played for years, and which after a few rounds morphed into 21 Till I Die (Stevie B you’re a genius).
Here’s the variation of 21 we played:
You’ll need 2+ players and 1 ball.
All players line up behind the free-throw line. The first player shoots for 2 points and if he catches the rebound shoots from where he caught it for 1 point. The other players take their turn.
The winner is the first to get to exactly 21. If a player goes over 21 they must continue until they get to 31 and if they go over 31 they continue until they get to 41 and so on. Note that your free-throw shots at this point must hit the ring, not the backboard and cannot be airballs.
Here’s how to play 21 Till I Die:
It’s exactly the same as the above variation of 21 but if you miss the shot and the rebound you drop and do push-ups. We started with 10 push-ups as the forfeit and soon wused to 5.
