Jacques Rogge President of the International Olympic Committee informed us at the opening ceremony that for the first time "in Olympic history all the participating teams will have female athletes. This is a major boost for gender equality."
Who can forget Sarah Attar of Saudia Arabia receiving a standing ovation despite coming last in her race. And the noise generated at the Excel Arena during the finals of the first ever Olympic Women's boxing matches.
