2012 is not only an Olympic year but it's a leap year as well and tradition goes that women are allowed the rare opportunity to propose to men on the 29th February.
What does this have to do with Jessica Ennis gracing the cover of Marie Claire? Not much really, other than it's also a rare opportunity for men to buy the magazine for the Missus and not feel awkward when paying for it at the counter.
You can rely on the universe to put things into equilibrium - women get to propose for one day of the year and men are able to buy Marie Claire with their heads held high.
'The Jessica Ennis Effect' may even double Marie Claire's sales with some men choosing to purchase a copy for the wife and splashing out* on one themselves.
