Just take a minute and imagine if you will the gym of your dreams. It’d probably have all the latest top of the range equipment to get you looking all...superhero like, hold some very fun and very cool classes and passionate fitness-minded guys and gals would form its congregation. Oh, and don't forget the in-house DJ laying down some of the best tunes to get you...fizzYcaL.
Wake up, snap out of it and if you live or work anywhere near London get yourself down to your local GymBox. They’ve made your dreams come true.
Fellow dreamers Richard Hilton and David Cooper acted on their nocturnal imaginings and now have four GymBoxs to their name. Number five’s set to be completed at the end of march and the duo’s goal is to get the empire up to 30 branches in the next few years.
Although still a relatively small gym chain, GymBox has already captured the attention of the media and regularly features in the local and national press. The outfits even managed to sting a Channel 4 programme called 'Fat Fighters'.
The gyms which have an obvious night club feel are the work of one of Europe’s leading night club designers, Ben Kelly. GymBox ain’t your white washed wall fitness centre with the airy fairy ambience accompanied with clink-a-dee-clink-clink music. The atmosphere is very much geared to getting you charged for a damn good workout ahead.
What sets GymBox apart from other gyms is its quirkness but behind all the quirk there’s some stone cold substance. The gyms are packed with the latest in muscle maximising and toning equipment. Each branch includes:
- An Olympic sized boxing ring with every conceivable type of punch bag.
- Crossfit equipment including rigs, TRXs, rings, bands, sleds, parralettes, battling ropes, plyo boxes etc.
- Olympic Weightlifting platforms with colour coded bumpers and complete shock proof flooring.
And that's not all...some of the gyms even have MMA cages. The newest facility, number five, in Farringdon will have one of the UK's largest rigs, climbing ropes two stories high and giant tractor tyres for flipping, smashing and generally taking out all your aggression on.
All the personal trainers and class instructors are first auditioned to see if they have the right style, attitude and passion to get you motivated to smash passed your goals. The strict requirements for all GymBox classes are that they must be original, effective, addictive, fun and quirky.
Popular classes such as Bitch Boxing, Pole Dancing, Stilleto workout, Pussycat Dolls workout and Yummy Bummy are aimed at GymBox's large number of female clients but classes like Brazilian Jujitsu, Krav Maga, the BARTENDAZ workout, Warrior Bootcamp or if your into yoga try the male friendly BROGA are popular alternatives for the fellas.
For us, Gymbox ticks a hell of a lot of boxes; a cool venue, live funky music, top of the range equipment, quirky classes and facilities world champion athletes would kill for.
