fizzYcaL fella - Blair Morrison

Blair Morrison embodies one of our favourite Einstein quotes, "play is the highest form of research!"

The scholar (that is Blair not Einstein) is a charismatic North Californian alpha-male: good-looking, chiseled, super-fit, resourceful, rugged and outdoorsy (in unison fellas - "DAMN THAT MAN!").

It's no wonder that Reebok and CrossFit have chosen him to be one of the faces of the 2011 games.

His journey into sports and fitness started in high school where he began playing American Football. Shorter and lighter than his peers working out allowed him to level the playing field and his sporting ability trumped his physical characteristics. Eventually, though the body caught up with the athleticism.

After completing a degree in History at Princeton University Blair spent three years as a personal trainer in Washington. There he was exposed to various exercise forms, techniques and methodologies.

Wanting to further his academic education and to see the world he left the States in 2009 for prestigious universities in the Netherlands, France and England. The journey ended with a Masters Degree in European History from Oxford University (brains as well as brawn... sickening).

Having to travel regularly during his studies he was never based in one place for too long and could not always gain access to a gym. Blair had to re-evaluate his approach to keeping fit.

To corrupt a well known saying, circumstance is the mother of creation and Mr Morrison's frequently changing and varied environments called for creative and practical solutions for his need to keep fit. The scholar in him chose to record and document his chameleon-like explorations in exercise on youtube and via his fitness travel log suitably titled, anywherefit (aka CrossFitMobile).

In the opening blog post his motivation can be distilled in two short sentences, "our bodies were built for action in the same way our minds were built for thought. While our brains were meant to reason, explore, and problem solve, our bodies were designed to stand up to the forces of nature and its many elements."

Whether you are considering exercising at a park, on a beach, at a car park, in a train, on the train track, outside a ski lodge, at the Louvre, by Tower Bridge or on Oxford University scaffolding Blair's blog will give you inspiration to think of new ways of using your environment to keep yourself super fit.

The guys at Reebok and the peeps at CrossFit HQ definitely chose well. Recently Blair came third in the Northern California CrossFit Regionals one of toughest regionals and one of 17 held across the world. This secures him a spot to compete in one of the hardest competitions in the world against some of the fittest athletes in the world at this year's CrossFit games. The three days of blood, sweat and tears begins on the 29th July 2011 and ends 31st July 2011.

Good luck Mr Morrison!
