Meet Muay and Thai, the right and left hands of Canadian T.J. Kennedy. Not only have they established T.J. as an experienced martial artist but they've also helped him distill his wealth of knowledge into a number of self-penned books and publications.
They further ensure with T.J.s uncanny ability to translate to a lay audience the intricacies and sweet science of martial arts that he is often called upon to write for fight and self-defence magazines.
Starting his martial arts schooling in his early teens, T.J. first enrolled in a Tae Kwon Do class which marked the beginning of his obsession with close quarters combat. Since then he has gone on to work with some of the brightest minds in the martial arts biz and has studied various disciplines extensively.
On his martial arts resume are Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, Bujinkan Ninjutsu, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Shorin-Ryu Karate, Compliance Direction Takedown (CDT) and Rince an Bhata Uisce Bheatha (Irish Stick Fighting).
This huge catalogue of experience lays the foundation for the Hybrid Fighting Method (HFM). HFM is a self-defence discipline and T.J.'s own creation which merges the best of the best techniques from the best of the best martial arts (pun and 1980's Tae Kwon Do movie reference intended).
The HFM method has had it's litmus test not just on the mat but in the harsh, brutal, unforgiving and unpredictable setting of the nightclub brawl. As a veteran bouncer T.J. has honed an intuitive approach to what works, building on it almost scientifically to make it better and more 'real world' applicable.
Distancing itself from the art in martial art and instead lodging itself firmly in the 'real world,' T.J.'s HFM is designed as an effective and efficient system of self-defence aimed at getting you to a competent and self-assured level fast.
