Coffee Shop Reads No.1

A small book which leaves a big impression - "Keep Your Brain Alive" by Lawrence C. Katz and Manning Rubin.

This book is the inspiration behind GETfizzYcaL and so is rightly the first of our Coffee Shop Reads.

Its prescribed 83 neurobic (think aerobics for the brain) exercises calls for readers to shake up the routine and do things a little differently to keep the grey matter flexible and healthy. The biggest of GETfizzYcaL.com aims is to do the same for physical exercise and the body.

Keep Your Brain Alive does have a bias towards older readers but young people should not be put off. The offbeat exercises provide brain benefits for all ages, and once you've done a handful of them your thinking will lean towards the more lateral and creative.

The tasks are simple to follow and the hows and whys they work are without convoluted scientific explanation.

A call to be more playful, the Keep Your Brain Alive exercises will help stimulate and nourish less used parts of the brain by encouraging readers to do things like, brushing your teeth with your less dominant hand or finding your way around a familiar room with your eyes closed - just make sure no one's looking!
