American Handball bares similarities to squash and is not to be confused with team handball. This nicely put together vid by the 13th Witness shows one of the 2000 odd one-wall handball courts in New York City.
In one-wall handball the ball is served against the wall and must pass the first line called a "short." If a server serves out of play two times in a row then they become the receiver.
The receiver must stand behind a dashed line located about 5 feet behind the "short," whilst the server serves. Once the ball is served, the receiver hits the ball back at the wall either after the first bounce or on the volley, but the ball must first cross the "short." The ball must not bounce twice. As in squash players cannot obstruct their opponents return.
If the server fails to return the ball, he or she becomes the receiver and if the receiver fails to return the ball a point goes to the server. The server is the only one that can score points. 21 points are the maximum that can be won in an American Handball game. The winner of two games out of three wins the match.
